Spectacular Scenery × History: 2-Day Plan in Amakusa

Day 1: Immerse Yourself in Natural Beauty and Ocean Treasures

Morning: Scenic Tour Around Myokenura
• Myokenura (Elephant Rock) Sightseeing
A representative scenic spot on the western coast of Amakusa, featuring cliffs 20–80 meters high, beautiful sea caves, and unique rock formations. It is designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument.
The sea cave is particularly special, as small boats can pass through it, and you can even see stalactites inside—a rare sight.
From the observation deck (Jusanbutsu Park), you can enjoy views of the elephant-shaped rock and stunning sunsets.

Afternoon: Dolphin Watching & Sunset Views
• Dolphin Watching (Itsuwa Town)
A popular experience with a high chance of encountering wild dolphins. The viewing point is close to the port, and the tour takes about an hour. Over 200 dolphins inhabit the area, boasting one of the highest encounter rates in Japan.
• Onigaura (Sunset Viewing)
A sunset spot near Myokenura. The sea’s high transparency and the quiet hot spring town nearby make for a romantic experience.
• Accommodation: Relax at Shimoda Onsen
Known for its gentle, skin-friendly waters with beautifying effects.

Day 2: A Journey Through History and Culture

Morning: Sakitsu Village & Sakitsu Church (World Heritage Site)
• Visit the Sakitsu Village Guidance Center
Part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage "Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region." Learn about the history and faith while enjoying the quaint scenery of the village.
• Visit Sakitsu Church (Sea Cathedral)
While evening visits are recommended, the church is also beautiful and solemn in the morning. The adjacent Sakitsu Suwa Shrine creates a unique landscape reflecting Japan’s distinctive religious culture.

Features extensive exhibits on the Shimabara Rebellion and Hidden Christians, providing a deeper understanding of the historical background.
