Millennia of Art in Color and Geometry #PannaMeenaKaKund - Jaipur, India

#SeptemberGoodPlaces2025
After visiting Amber Fort, we took a jeep to the base of the hill to meet up for the bus. Not far away, we spotted the Panna Meena Kakund, a stepwell that bore a striking resemblance to Chand Baori, the moon well in Abhanali Village east of Jaipur. This stepwell wasn't part of our itinerary, so we took advantage of the short wait for the bus and a restroom break to snap away photos. This stepwell, built in the 16th century, is slightly smaller than Chand Baori and features three crisscrossing steps with small niches along the walls. While both steps share geometric shapes, the designs differ slightly. One must admire the skill of Indian artisans, who manage to create such a seemingly complex pattern with such ingenious and neat arrangement.
