I first encountered a red pumpkin in Naoshima, where I went for 2 days and 1 night in 2012. After going around the island, I came across a yellow pumpkin again.
Polka dot pattern! This pumpkin with repeated polka dot patterns looked like a ladybug🐞, but I was strangely drawn to it from that day on.
In the fall of the same year, I went on a trip to Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture. I encountered the pumpkin again at the Parco department store in the city center. This time, it was white and red, not black and red.
I visited Matsumoto 3 more times after that, which is also her hometown. I went to see the sculptures installed at the Matsumoto City Museum of Art.
I saw her works all over Japan while traveling. I also saw yellow pumpkins in Jeju Island, Seoul, Incheon, and Gwacheon in Korea.
The Kusama Museum in Tokyo opened around 2017, but I haven't been able to go yet because it's hard to get tickets. I plan to visit it when I go to Tokyo again later.
I found out two days ago that there is an installation by Yayoi Kusama in Anyang. I look into it to go to the exhibition held at Samseong Station.
Then I find a small sculpture in Anyang Peace Park and go there first in the morning. It is in Beomgye Station. You can see it right across the traffic light from the station exit.
The weather was nice that day, so I took some pretty pictures. It was installed here in 2007. Tadao Ando's architecture was also in various places in Korea.
The same goes for Yayoi Kusama's works. The name of the work installed in the Peace Park is Hello, Anyang with Love, and it depicts flowers in full bloom and puppies. I'm having a good time. Thank you.
