🌿 Puglia: The Soul of Southern Italy

#mediterranean

Puglia, the “heel” of Italy’s boot, is a region full of sun-kissed coastlines, olive groves, and whitewashed villages. What I loved most is how authentic and unspoiled it feels compared to other Italian regions. Towns like Alberobello with its fairytale trulli houses, Ostuni with gleaming white walls, and Lecce, the “Florence of the South,” are absolutely charming.

The beaches in Puglia are some of the best in Italy — from the crystal-clear waters of Polignano a Mare perched on cliffs, to the golden sands of the Salento Peninsula. Local food is another highlight: orecchiette pasta, burrata cheese, fresh seafood, and robust local wines make every meal unforgettable.

Tips: Renting a car is the best way to explore Puglia’s scattered towns and coastal spots. Visit in spring or autumn to avoid the summer crowds and heat. Stay in a traditional masseria (farmhouse) for an authentic experience.

📍 Location: Puglia, Southern Italy
🕒 Best Time to Visit: April–June or September–October for pleasant weather and fewer tourists
