background
Mount Aso is located in Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. It is a famous tourist attraction in the Kyushu region. Mount Aso is an active volcano and there is still a record of eruptions in 2022. However, this does not stop travelers from making pilgrimages. After all, Mount Aso has one of the few spectacular caldera landscapes in the world. Its convenient transportation makes it easy to reach, making Mount Aso a popular tourist destination in Kumamoto. Let's take a look!
The Aso Caldera is approximately 18 km long from east to west and 25 km from north to south. Of the five Aso mountains located in the center of the caldera (Neko-dake, Taka-dake, Naka-dake, Eboshi-dake, and Kishima-dake), Naka-dake is the one that continues to have volcanic activity. Zhongyue has a diameter of 600 meters and a depth of 130 meters. In the huge crater with a circumference of 4 kilometers, you can observe the strong white smoke ejected dynamically at close range. When volcanic activity is active, access to the crater is also restricted.
