Nam Co Sacred Elephant Gate in Tibet is truly breathtaking to the point of forgetting to breathe! This sacred plateau lake at an altitude of 4700 meters offers stunning shots wherever you point your camera📸
🚗 Itinerary
📍Nam Co Sacred Elephant Gate
Address: Nam Co Scenic Area, Damxung County, Lhasa City, Tibet Autonomous Region
Ticket: 120 RMB/person (includes environmental protection vehicle)
Opening Hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
This place is incredibly photogenic! The huge rock gate seems to lead to heaven, with the blue lake reflecting the distant snow-capped mountains, so beautiful it feels otherworldly.
✨ Practical Tips
1. Altitude sickness is not to be underestimated; it’s recommended to take Rhodiola 2-3 days in advance and avoid too much excitement or jumping around after arrival.
2. The UV rays are extremely strong! Remember to bring SPF50+ sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
3. The temperature difference between day and night is huge; in June, nights can drop to 0°C, so a thick jacket is essential.
4. For photos, it’s best to wear bright or white clothes to complement the blue lake.
🍜 Food Recommendations
There are limited restaurant options inside the scenic area, so it’s advisable to bring your own snacks (chocolate, nuts, and other high-calorie foods are very practical).
🏠 Accommodation Suggestions
You can choose to stay in Damxung County (about a 2-hour drive from Nam Co). Although the conditions are basic, the altitude is relatively lower (4300 meters), allowing for a better night's sleep.
