[Azerbaijan] Fortress city of Baku's old town, Icheri Sheher

#TravelTips

Azerbaijan, a resource-rich nation facing the Caspian Sea, is the most prosperous of the three Caucasus countries (Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia), thanks to its proximity to the Silk Road.

Baku's new city is quite modern, with skyscrapers and commercial facilities.

The old city, surrounded by walls, known as "Icherisheher," is a protected historical area designated a World Heritage Site, boasting numerous historical buildings, including palaces, mosques, baths, and caravanserais from the Shirvanshah dynasty.

The desert-colored buildings are densely packed, and the maze-like narrow alleys are dotted with residential areas, souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries, travel agencies, and hotels.

Admission to the old city is free.
You can enjoy a historical stroll through the old city in half a day.

The vast Caspian Sea is just a 10-minute walk from Icherisheher.
