Canggu, Bali, is a popular tourist destination and a hub for restaurants. Santanera is one of the most popular restaurants. I booked a table online before arriving in Bali. Located in the heart of Canggu, Santanera specializes in exquisite dishes with a Latin American and European flair. They blend local ingredients with South American cooking techniques, creating a fusion of local flavors and offering diners a fresh taste. South American and Mediterranean tapas coexist here.
The restaurant is housed in a three-story detached house. Soft, dim lighting creates a lively and warm atmosphere. A spiral staircase leads to the second floor, overlooking the basement lobby and open kitchen. The bustling chefs 👨🏻🍳 and wait staff are the heart of the restaurant. The third-floor terrace serves as a relaxed bar area 🥂.
For dinner, we ordered the tasting menu, which included several signature dishes, including woodfired potato bread, woodfired baby squid, Mahi Mahi Tamara (vegetables in fish sauce), duck and mushroom fillet, yellowfin tuna tartelette, pan-fried sashimi, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, potato crepes, and churros for dessert. Each dish offered a surprise, each with its own unique flavor and character, offering a truly refreshing and filling meal.
