|The beginning of the First Uprising. The Uprising Gate is located at the southern end of Shouyi South Road, Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. It was originally built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty and was originally the Zhonghe Gate of Wuchang Ancient City. Here, the martyrs fired the first shot of the 1911 Revolution!
On October 10, 1911, after the uprising of the Hubei New Army Engineering Battalion, it quickly controlled the Zhonghe Gate, and the Nanhu Horse Artillery Battalion was able to enter the city from this gate, and set up artillery on the city to bombard the Huguang Governor's Mansion, opening a new page in modern Chinese history. Later, it was called by historians as "the beginning of the first victory"! There is a poem saying: the river starts here, and the first righteousness is a gun. The imperial system is scattered with clouds, and civil rights are born in the waves.
The Uprising Gate is the only city gate preserved among the original 10 city gates of Wuchang. The city gate is inlaid with the three golden characters of "Uprising Gate" written by Marshal Ye Jianying. Although the bullet holes and bullet holes at that time are no longer visible, you can still pay tribute to the martyrs on the city gate!
