Penida Island East-West Route Guide Without Backtracking

Many people complain that Penida Island is rundown and messy, and that a one-day trip is exhausting and crowded, with the whole day spent either on a boat or in a car🚗. Having been to Penida three times, I want to speak up!! That's really not true‼️ Penida’s sea is truly stunning. As long as you follow the schedule and stay at least one night on the island, your experience will definitely be amazing!

🗺️Tour order:
D1: Sanur boat ⟶ Penida Pier ⟶ Angel’s Billabong ⟶ Broken Beach ⟶ Watch the sunset at Kelingking Cliff
D2: Depart from hotel on Penida Island ⟶ Diamond Beach ⟶ Atuh Beach ⟶ Treehouse ⟶ Return to Penida Pier for snorkeling ⟶ Back to Bali

🌍Getting around🚶🚶
🚢Round-trip boat tickets: You can check on KL, choose your own time and boat company, or book through a local agent💗
🚗Island transportation: Attractions are far apart, so hire a car with a driver through a local agent, or rent a scooter for 100k IDR per day (not recommended due to poor road conditions!!)
🐎Transfer from Bali to the pier: Take a taxi or have a local agent arrange a transfer for convenience

🌊Attractions & best visiting times
【D1 West Line for Sunset】
✅Angel’s Billabong: Right next to Broken Beach, a natural infinity pool perfect for photos. The path down is fenced off.
✅Broken Beach: Avoid the crowded main area; walk a bit further to the spot in my photo where there are no railings!
✅Kelingking Cliff: The hottest check-in spot. It’s packed in the morning and noon, so arrive around 3 PM when day-trippers have left. You can get panoramic shots for free, and with the elevator fixed, you can go down to the beach to watch the sunset. Two hours here is not enough.
【D2 East Line for Sunrise and Beaches】
✅Sunrise at the hotel: Staying at hotels on the east or central part of the island lets you see the sunrise and then catch some extra sleep.
✅Diamond Beach: Recommended to arrive around 11 AM when the sunlight makes the sand sparkle like diamonds. It’s the first time in my life I saw such white, shiny, and soft sand—an absolute must-visit!!
✅Treehouse: Checked in on my second trip to Penida. Luckily, it wasn’t crowded and it’s great for photos.
✅Snorkeling from the pier: When I went in August, the waves were huge. Of the three snorkeling spots, we only went to one. My friend got seasick and vomited all the way. Not recommended for beginners—better to snorkel in Lovina where the water is calm and safe.

🏨Accommodation:
Hotels on the island are generally more expensive than on Bali mainland. The ones I stayed at were comfortable but inevitably had some hygiene issues, which is common on the island.
1️⃣Wooden bungalow🏘️ Coconut grove views + pool + delicious dinner + rooms with spa appointments available, very cost-effective and comfortable.
2️⃣Small villa🏨 The homestay’s advantage is the view; you can see the sunrise from the hotel, and there’s a particularly beautiful and upscale (but not expensive) beach club nearby.

⚠️Notes:
🌞Bring strong sunscreen; the island’s UV rays are very strong.
Wear sneakers as the roads are rough, and if you get motion sickness, remember to bring medicine💊
