Tanah Lot Temple: Land in the Sea and Bali's Most Beautiful Sunset

There are places where you just want to stand and gaze. Tanah Lot is one of them. The temple stands on a cliff overlooking the ocean, and when the tide comes in, it seems to float on the waves. At low tide, you can walk along the rocks almost to the very foundation.

It's one of the most photographed spots on the island. The sunset here is perfect for postcards: the sun sets behind the temple, the sea sparkles, and the air becomes thick with humidity and the smell of salt.

📍 Location: Beraban village, Tabanan region, west coast of Bali.
🕐 When to go: Best time to go: morning, when there are fewer tourists, or around sunset—but be aware that there will be crowds then.

How to visit Tanah Lot on a budget

💰 Ticket: for foreigners - about $5-6, for children - $2-3.
🛵 Transportation: The easiest way to get there is by scooter (around $7-8 per day) or with a driver—usually $25-30 for half a day, including waiting time. It's a 40-minute drive from Seminyak, and a little over an hour from Ubud.
☕ Tip: There are plenty of cafes overlooking the ocean near the entrance. The most beautiful shots are obtained by going a little lower, closer to the beach, and waiting for high tide.

Tanah Lot is a place where time seems to slow down. You sit on a rock, listen to the waves crashing against the cliff, and realize: this is the real Bali—calm, beautiful, and a little mystical.
