Background
Gembleng Waterfall, also called Dukuh Sakti, is located in Tri Eka Buana village, Telun Wayah, Sidemen, in the Karangasem region of East Bali. Originally a sacred site used by locals for purification rituals (melukat), it’s now opened more widely to visitors seeking nature, tranquility, and stunning jungle views.
Why It’s Worth Visiting
Gembleng offers a peaceful escape and a rare chance to soak in natural tiered rock pools—three levels in total—carved into the cliff face. The upper pools, especially, feel like a natural infinity tub, overlooking lush landscapes of Sidemen. The hike is short and steep—around 5-10 minutes up stairs from the parking area—but manageable for most visitors. Facilities are minimal but include a small restaurant perched above the falls that offers drinks, snacks, views, and basic toilets.
My Impression
Getting to the top pool felt like finding a secret. Walking up beside the flowing water, with green jungle around me and the valley spread out below, made each step worthwhile. Even though the pools are shallow, soaking there gives a deep sense of calm, as if the world has slowed. Watching the light change over the Sidemen hills just before sunset—it felt like being suspended between earth, water, and sky in the best way.
