Impressions of 16 countries I visited by age 30

Hi, I’m Xiao Liu. My first time abroad, first backpacking trip, first budget travel—spent 32,000 yuan over 155 days visiting 15 countries.

1. Vietnam (18 days, 2868.9 yuan)
My first stop abroad, traveled solo the whole way, 0 yuan entry to Mong Cai, traveled all the way to Ho Chi Minh City. The food suits the Chinese palate very well. Highly recommend Da Lat.

2. Indonesia (15 days, 2898.7 yuan)
I was truly amazed the moment I saw the elves falling off the cliff; the sea is absolutely stunning. Bali is a must-visit, Ubud is perfect for relaxing. Island, volcano, forest—lots to do, 🉑 revisit.

3. Malaysia (15 days, 2480 yuan)
Personally, I think Malaysian food is better, quite similar to Guangdong and Fujian cuisine. Many Chinese people, no communication barriers. For first-time travelers abroad, Malaysia is a great choice.

4. Thailand
Thailand really is the happy home, I love the night markets and street food. Prices are very affordable, who understands the joy of a 30-yuan massage? Love Krabi, 🉑 revisit.

5. Maldives
Who would have thought you can budget travel in the Maldives! I really want to live on a local island, soaking in the sea, snorkeling, fishing every day—so happy 🉑 revisit.

6. United Arab Emirates
Personally, not very suitable for budget travel. Once stayed at a guesthouse that made me want to leave immediately. Prefer Abu Dhabi more.

7. Oman
If I hadn’t come myself, I wouldn’t have known this country. 100 yuan is equivalent to their 5 rials. Although prices aren’t cheap, it’s surprisingly comfortable.

8. Armenia
My first “hitchhiking” experience. Locals are very warm, they stop to ask if you need a ride when they see you walking. Various monasteries… worth a visit.

9. Georgia
An underrated travel destination! Great for hiking and skiing. Kazbegi and Batumi are must-visits 🉑 revisit.

10. Iran
Went with some apprehension, almost gave up but had already bought the ticket. Accommodation and transport were troublesome. Experienced discrimination four times, didn’t dare to go out at night. But Persian architecture is truly amazing.

11. Turkey
Istanbul is perfect for city walks. For 68 euros, you can take a hot air balloon ride—an indescribable shock 🉑 revisit.

12. Albania
Half a day in the capital is enough, save your time for other cities.

13. Serbia
Ancient castles and the beautiful Danube River, a hidden European treasure. Many supermarkets, restaurants, clubs, and even KTVs run by Chinese along the streets.

14. Bosnia and Herzegovina
Half city, half cemetery. The mountainous scenery and war sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina make you feel the weight of history.

15. Egypt
I was worried about being scammed after researching, told my friends I’d allow myself to be scammed only three times in one day. Was shocked by the low prices, didn’t get scammed. The Red Sea is truly amazing, perfect for relaxing. 🉑 revisit.

16. Nepal
Not very cheap, but tuition fees are affordable. The whole country feels covered in dust, remember to bring a mask when traveling.
