Travel Guide to Hechi, Guangxi: A Hidden Gem in the Mountains and Waters You Haven't Heard Of?
Looking for a place with few people, stunning scenery, and a chance to avoid the crowds? Hechi, Guangxi is the answer. The mountains and waters here are more beautiful than paintings, yet few know about them.
Must-Visit Spots
1. Bama Longevity Village: Don’t just know it as the hometown of longevity. In the early morning, mist winds around the green mountains and rice fields. Walking in the village feels like entering a fairyland. You can even chat with centenarians and learn some health tips.
2. Fengshan Sanmenhai: You don’t need a boat to see the underground river skylight. Take a boat through three natural caves where sunlight streams in from the openings, the water surface sparkling like a fairy tale world.
3. Yizhou Xiaxian River: The place where Liu Sanjie sang mountain songs. Bamboo rafts drift on the river, with bamboo forests rustling on both sides. You can even learn a few mountain songs from the boatman.
Don’t Miss the Food
• Bama fragrant pork: roasted crispy on the outside and tender inside, every bite full of meaty aroma and not greasy at all.
• Yizhou beef strips: the more you chew, the more flavorful. Perfect as a snack while watching dramas.
• Hechi boiled rice noodles: the broth is very fresh, with sour bamboo shoots and minced meat. One bite is super satisfying.
Practical Tips
• Best time to visit: April to May or September to October each year, when it’s not hot and there are fewer people.
• Transportation: It’s recommended to first arrive in Hechi city, then rent a car or take shuttle buses to various attractions for convenience.
• Accommodation: You can stay in Bama or Yizhou city for better cost performance and to enjoy local snacks.
