Belgian food and beautiful views of Bangkok

#เที่ยวกับtrip2024

“BELGA Rooftop Bar & Brasserie” – This is the only Belgian restaurant in Bangkok located on the 32nd floor of Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit. In addition to the beautiful sunset view and night lights, the interior of the restaurant is decorated in the same style as real Belgian brasseries. Just stepping out of the elevator, it feels like you have been transported to another part of the world. Every corner is beautiful and every zone is comfortable to sit in.

As a Belgian restaurant, the menu doesn’t just have mussels, French fries, and waffles. There are also local dishes that, at first glance, may seem familiar and similar to other European dishes, but they have their own unique details that are actually quite difficult to find in our country. For this meal, we chose to try the following 3 courses:

✅ COMPLIMENTARY BREAD

The bread is served in a wooden bowl made from a stylish beer barrel that matches the restaurant’s concept, served with fresh butter. Enjoy a snack to fill your stomach.

✅ ENTRÉES

🥗LIÉGEOISE SALAD (Lettuce, Lardons, Potatoes, Egg)

“Liège salad” is named after the city of Liège in eastern Belgium. It is a salad that is special because it is served warm, perfect for the winter. The “warmth” of this salad comes from the potatoes and green beans that are stir-fried with thick, soft bacon until cooked and fragrant. They are then mixed with fresh vegetables and boiled eggs. The salad dressing is a vinaigrette that the chef has prepared to have a well-balanced flavor that is not too sour. Overall, it has a similar feel to a main dish, but still maintains a refreshing taste that is not too heavy or greasy. This is our favorite salad of all the salads we've ever eaten.

✅ MAIN

🐔WATERZOOI, BELGA'S WAY (Slow Cooked Chicken Breast, White Wine Sauce)

This dish is a local dish in the Flanders region in northern Belgium. It originated in the city of Ghent, so it's also called "Gentse Waterzooi". It's said that this dish was originally made from fish and seafood, but later the rivers around Ghent were polluted, causing the number of fish to decrease. So, chicken was used instead, and it's been popular to this day.

Normally, Waterzooi is a stew, simmering chicken and vegetables until soft in a soup base with cream and egg yolk. It's usually served in a deep bowl with a lot of soup to sip. The thickness is similar to our local Tom Kha Gai. You can spread the soup with bread and eat it together. But Belga's recipe presents Waterzooi in a beautiful, contemporary style. The soup is served as a white wine sauce on a flat plate. Revealing the stewed chicken breast until the meat is soft and firm, decorated with vegetables and baby carrots. The taste is deep, both mellow and softly fragrant. Although it looks different and makes you miss the soup, it is just as delicious as the original.

✅ DESSERT

🧇BELGIAN WAFFLE

This menu is Brussels (Bruxelles) waffle with a light, porous, crispy surface, sprinkled with fine white icing sugar. We chose chocolate sauce and homemade vanilla ice cream as a side dish, which went well together. Especially the chocolate sauce is rich and fragrant, as expected from Belgian chocolate.

In addition to various sweet and savory dishes, there are also a variety of drinks to enjoy in the evening with a view of the skyscrapers. But for us, we would like to end this meal with a cup of hot coffee, which is perfect.
