According to history, it was built in the late Ayutthaya period. The name of the builder is unknown. The temple's name was changed several times before it finally became 'Wat Intharawihan, Royal Monastery'.
This temple is known for its large alms-bearing Buddha statue, Luang Pho To, and its holy water well, built by Somdej Phra Buddhacarya To Phrommarangsi.
