Ratchabophit was built in 1869 by King Rama V for the Queen. The temple is a mixture of local and Western styles, symbolizing an interest in experimentation and new ideas alongside classical canons. Situated near Bangkok's Grand Palace, the temple has some Gothic elements in its design, which distinguishes it from other temples in the area.
The two viharns and the ubosot (main hall) are typically Thai in design, with ceramics and intricate gilded designs on the doors and window frames, while the interior is largely European in style, reminiscent of a Gothic cathedral. The ubosot contains a golden seated Buddha, Phra Buddha Ankhiros, set on a base that holds the ashes of King Rama VII.
