Huotong Creek is one of Fujian Province's "Five Rivers and Three Creeks" and the only unpolluted river in the province. It originates between the northern section of the Jiufeng Mountain Range and the southern section of the Donggong Mountain Range. It flows through Pingnan County, where it converges with other streams, before entering the city near Shangjian Village in the northwest of the city. It then passes through Hongkou and enters Baibu Village, then turns southeast through Huotong, Yiban, Xinan, Yanganban, Jiudu, and Badu, before emptying into Sandu'ao in Jinchui Youping. Its total length is 126 kilometers.
The middle and upper reaches of the stream are surrounded by medium and low mountainous areas, with many steep cliffs and concentrated drops. The middle and lower reaches are mainly low mountains and hills, and below Jiudu Township, it is granite high hills. Its unique canyon landforms, granite high hills and river valley alluvial plains have created the beautiful scenery of the nine bends, eighteen turns and twenty-seven rapids in its basin.
