Crossing the Chao Phraya River by Ferry in Bangkok: Exploring the Old Town and Iconsiam by Ferry

[Location & Access]
From "Oriental Pier" near BTS Saphan Taksin Station in central Bangkok, I crossed the Chao Phraya River on the Wat Suwan Cross River Ferry to visit the popular Iconsiam. The ferry fare is about 5 baht one way. You can enjoy a local atmosphere riding alongside residents, making it a convenient transportation option for tourists as well.

[The Ferry Ride Experience & Atmosphere]
Climbing the stairs to the boarding area, a traditional wooden ferry awaits. Departures are every 5 to 10 minutes, ensuring smooth service even during busy times. Once aboard, the river breeze feels pleasant, and the view is filled with Bangkok’s skyscrapers and Iconsiam on the opposite bank. Although the ride is short, the cityscape from the river and the local interactions on board offer a unique Bangkok experience.

[Enjoying Iconsiam After Arrival]
Upon reaching the opposite shore, the futuristic Iconsiam appears right before your eyes. It’s convenient for shopping and café hopping, and a major attraction is the direct access from the water. You can return on the same ferry, allowing you to enjoy sightseeing without worrying about time.

[Usage Information & Tips]

📍Tickets are cash only (small change recommended), with English signage for tourists’ peace of mind
📍Evenings offer beautiful river breezes and sunsets, perfect for photography
📍The ferry can be shaky inside, so hold onto the handrails firmly when boarding

[Overall Review]
For visiting the iconic Iconsiam, using the Chao Phraya River ferry is highly recommended. Despite the short ride, you can enjoy a local vibe and stunning views, making your trip even more memorable.
