Wat Kalayanamit Woramahawihan (Wat Kalaya), Bangkok 🙏✨
An ancient temple by the Chao Phraya River that is peaceful, simple, yet full of faith and historical significance.
Wat Kalayanamit Woramahawihan, commonly called "Wat Kalaya" by locals, is located on the Thonburi side near the Phra Pradaeng pier and Wat Arun. It was built during the reign of King Rama III by Chao Phraya Nikorn Bodin, who donated the land for the temple and named it "Kalayanamit," which means "good friend."
The highlight of the temple is the "Phra Buddha Trairattana Nayok," known locally as "Luang Pho To," a large plaster Buddha statue inside the vihara. It is a sacred Buddha image revered by both Thai and Chinese people, believed that "paying respect to Luang Pho To will ensure safe travels."
Points of interest:
• The large and majestic Luang Pho To statue
• Architecture blending Chinese-Thai styles from the reign of King Rama III
• The temple is located by the river, perfect for viewing the Chao Phraya River
• A peaceful atmosphere with few crowds
