- There is no record of the exact year Wat Tri Thotsathep was built. It is only known that Prince Vissanunathiphat, the Krom Muen, donated funds and designated the area for the temple's construction. However, he passed away before construction could begin. Prince Mahesorn Siwilas, the Krom Muen, then took over the project and completed digging the temple moat, building the monks' quarters, pavilions, and dining hall. Before the main hall, ordination hall, and sermon hall could be built, he also passed away. King Rama IV then took over the project himself, appointing Phraya Ratchasongkhram as the director of construction, which was completed in the year 1867 (Year of the Dragon). The temple was named Wat Tri Thotsathep by royal decree.
