- St. Francis Xavier Church, Samsen, located in the Dusit District of Bangkok, is one of the most important and ancient Catholic churches in Thailand. It was built during the reign of King Rama III by a group of Catholic missionaries from France as a center for the spread of religion and the practice of Catholic worship in the Samsen area and surrounding areas. The first church, built of bamboo in 1834 and named Saint Francis Xavier Church, was damaged by a storm for only three years. It was later rebuilt of wood, and Bishop Jean-Paul-Hilaire-Michel Courvezy, the leader of the Siamese Mission, brought a statue of Our Lady and a statue of St. Francis Xavier from Manila to be installed in the second church. The third church took 10 years to complete and was consecrated on the day of the Feast of St. Francis Xavier in 1867. It has a neo-Gothic architecture with ancient brick and mortar walls.
