🏘 Wat Bang Pakok, originally known as Wat Bang Khi, is believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. It became abandoned after the second fall of Ayutthaya.
🏠 Around 1782, people resettled in the area and restored the temple, renaming it Wat Bang Pakok after the nearby canal.
🏡 It is believed to have undergone another restoration around 1857 during the tenure of Luang Pu Pring as the abbot.
🧉 During World War II, Wat Bang Pakok served as a refuge for civilians and even members of the royal family. The temple is located not far from a Japanese shipyard.
Key attractions within the temple include:
🏠 The vihara: The first building is made of concrete in Khmer-style architecture, while the second is crafted from teak wood with intricate carvings, believed to have been built during the Rattanakosin period around 1941.
🛕 Two pagodas: One in Mon-style and the other in Khmer-style architecture.
🛖 The floating library: A traditional Thai-style structure situated in the middle of a pond.
🏚 Luang Pu Pring's vihara: Houses several Buddha statues, a statue of Luang Pu Pring, and a portrait of Prince Admiral Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak.
🏡 Wat Bang Pakok: No. 86, Suksawat Road, Bang Pakok Subdistrict, Rat Burana District, Bangkok.
