Bangkok is a city you'll never want to leave, ablaze with nightlife, a vibrant mix of street food and century-old shops. Bangkok's Chinatown (Yaowarat Road) epitomizes the nightlife, with its vibrant, wok-fried rice noodles, fragrant and crispy spicy banana pancakes, and delicious desserts and milk teas that will tantalize your senses. This itinerary sincerely recommends authentic Bangkok restaurants, based on my personal experience, offering a comprehensive dining experience perfect for independent travelers!
[Bangkok Food Spots]
1️⃣ Chen Yi Kway Teow Shop
This incredibly popular local pork offal kway teow shop, located at 442 Samphanthawong 9, Bangkok (near Chinatown), is a must-try on any Bangkok Chinatown night trip. Their pork trotter rice, pork rib rice, and pig's blood soup are must-try dishes – all warm and tender. The kway teow, in particular, has a rich, wok-fried aroma, and the broth is rich and flavorful, with the meat tender and juicy. Dinner is packed, so arrive early to avoid long waits for a table.
2️⃣ Chinatown (Yaowarat Road)
Chinatown is incredibly lively at night, with aromas wafting from every shop. Besides the fried kway teow and pork trotter rice, the banana pancakes on the roadside are a must-try—freshly made and pan-fried, with a crispy exterior and a sweet, soft filling. Hot and spicy, they're a mouthful! If you're not keen on greasy food, pair it with a cup of Bangkok's must-try bubble tea—with adjustable sweetness and chewy boba, it's a perfect way to enjoy a drink while strolling through the night market.
Location: PGR5+4XP, Yaowarat Road, Khwaeng Samphanthawong, Khet Samphanthawong, Bangkok
Hours: Open all day, all year round (though the food stalls are generally busiest at night).
3️⃣ Nara CentralWorld
If you're wandering through CentralWorld, try Nara on the 7th floor, a high-quality Thai restaurant. Highlights: Mango Sticky Rice, Curry Crab, Tom Yum Goong, and Green Curry Chicken. Perfect for family or friends, the portions are generous and the flavors are subtly refined—the mango is sweet, and the coconut milk sticky rice is perfectly firm. Address: CentralWorld, 7th Floor, No. 4, 4/1–4/2, 4/4 Ratchadamri Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok
4️⃣ Here Hai
Specializing in crab fried rice, it's a favorite among locals. Located at 112, 1 Ekkamai Road, Khwaeng Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok in the Ekkamai area, Here Hai serves crab fried rice. Its crab omelet, mantis shrimp omelet, and crab roll are all generously prepared, and the crab meat is fresh and not fishy. The restaurant's simple and bright design makes it a great place for a leisurely lunch with friends.
[Bangkok Tips & Transportation Guide]
- For quick access to Chinatown, take the MRT to the Wat Mangkon station exit. It's about a 7-minute walk to the heart of the city.
- Always eat your char kway teow hot; it's freshly made for the best flavor. If you're afraid of spicy food, be sure to ask the spice level beforehand; authentic Bangkok style is often on the spicy side.
- Banana pancakes are sold at many street vendors, so it's recommended to buy them directly. If you encounter a mobile vendor, the aroma will be the strongest when they're being fried.
- Nara CentralWorld is located in a large shopping mall, making it convenient for shopping and dining.
- Here Hai is close to Ekkamai BTS Station, making it easy to commute.
