🏘 Wat Yang (Bang Chak) was established in 1840 during the reign of King Rama III. The temple's name originates from the frequent presence of herons on the roof of the ordination hall and the rubber trees planted within the temple grounds. Additionally, the temple's southern side is adjacent to Bang Chak Canal, hence the name Wat Yang (Bang Chak).
Key attractions and significant features within the temple include:
🏠 The ordination hall, constructed with brick and plaster, lacks decorative gable apexes and ridge decorations. This is due to the influence of Chinese architecture during the reign of King Rama III when Siam engaged in trade with China. Inside, the principal Buddha image in meditation posture is enshrined, made of laterite and brick plaster.
⛺ The vihara houses Luang Pho Nopphakao, a Buddha image from the Ayutthaya period, crafted from laterite and brick plaster, lacquered and gilded, in a meditation posture. The name "Luang Pho Nopphakao" derives from the Buddha image having nine toes.
🙏🏽 The temple organizes an annual homage and gilding ceremony for Luang Pho Nopphakao every April.
🛕 The chedi features a beautiful design, with the second level housing Buddha images in niches.
