When you think of Barcelona, Spain, you think of the Sagrada Familia. The Sagrada Familia, a World Heritage Site, is an unfinished work by architect Antoni Gaudi. I went there because I wanted to see the construction in progress with my own eyes. It is just a symbol of Barcelona, and the area was crowded with tourists just by arriving. We made a reservation in advance on the official website to visit the inside of the cathedral. There are two types of tickets: a ticket to enter the cathedral only, and a ticket to enter the cathedral and climb the tower. There are two towers, the "Nativity Facade" and the "Passion Facade", and you can choose one of them. We purchased a ticket to climb the "Nativity Facade" and entered. First, we went inside the cathedral. We were greeted by a magnificent space covered with a high ceiling. The many columns made of marble and other materials are impressive. The colorful stained glass of red, orange, blue and green is also worth seeing. The color changes depending on the amount of light that shines in, so I kept looking up.
Then, you take the elevator to the tower and the spiral staircase to go down.
It wasn't a pain because you could see the cityscape of Barcelona, the sculptures on the buildings, and the construction in progress up close.
We visited in 2019.
It was a great memory to be able to see and feel the actual Sagrada Familia with my own eyes.
It is said that it is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
