Batu Caves, which can be reached with just one train ride from Kuala Lumpur, is surprisingly easy to get to. From KL Sentral, take the KTM Komuter, and you'll arrive in about 30–40 minutes. At the entrance, you'll be greeted by a massive golden statue of Lord Murugan, whose sheer scale is awe-inspiring in person. The colorful 272 steps leading up to the caves are a popular photo spot, but climbing them can be more challenging than expected, so be sure to bring water!
Monkeys can be found all along the stairs, so keep your drinks and food securely in your bag. Once you reach the top, you'll be greeted by a large limestone cave that combines the sacred atmosphere of a temple with the beauty of nature. Entry to the main cave is free, while the adjacent Ramayana Cave can be visited for 5 MYR.
Since the weather can be quite hot, it's recommended to visit in the morning. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and as it's a religious site, avoid sleeveless tops or short bottoms. If needed, bring a scarf or rent a covering cloth on-site.
