Introducing Yishi Shangshufang

Yishi Shangshufang, located in Dakengkou Village, Jixi County, was built in 1562 , the 30th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty. It embodies the typical Ming Dynasty Hui style. With four pillars, three doors, and five floors, it is a single, imitation-wood structure, 10 meters high and 9 meters wide. It was crafted from a combination of granite and tea garden stone.

The overall structure of the archway adopts a side-foot approach, converging inward, and the four major pillars have smoothed edges and corners, which are the so-called erroneous corner pillars; the pillars on the north and south sides are supported by drum stones, creating a dignified, stable, and proudly upright aesthetic effect; the roof of the archway is a hip-and-gable style, carved from tea garden stone slabs, supported by brackets and with overhanging eaves.

At each end of each main ridge, a giant turtle ( Diao Yu) stands face to face. A flaming bead is placed in the center of the main ridge , and eight large ridges rise up into the sky. A vertical plaque with the inscription " En Rong " (En Rong) hangs in the center of the main building, surrounded by a relief pattern of two dragons playing with a pearl. The north and south sides of the ceiling below are inscribed with the inscriptions " Yi Shi Shang Shu " and " Yi Shi Gong Bao " ( Yi Shi Gong Bao ), respectively . The calligraphy is fluent and powerful, with an extraordinary charm, and is attributed to the master calligrapher Wen Zhengming.
