Jun 20, 2024
The large-scale art retrospective of French conceptual art pioneer 🧑🎨Benavinet has landed in 🏛️Beijing Phoenix Center, in the famous "Mobius Strip" building. I recently took my children 🧒 to see the exhibition, especially his later sculptures. When the outdoor sunlight ☀️ shines into the Phoenix Center, the architectural style and the artworks complement each other. The exhibition is fun to visit and the scenery is beautiful
🎭Bernard Venet: Beyond Concepts and Matter
📍Address: Beijing Phoenix Center (No. 3 Chaoyang Park South Road, Chaoyang District)
⏳Exhibition period: September 28, 2024 - February 28, 2025
🕙Opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday 10:00-17:00; Friday to Sunday 10:00-19:00
⭕️Exhibition Highlights
✅This exhibition is the largest retrospective of Benavinet in the world, displaying more than 100 works of this 🧑🎨French artist, spread across the Phoenix Center B1, 1st floor outdoor space, 2F, 4F and 5F multiple exhibition halls
✅The works on display include painting🎨, photography, sculpture, performance, sound🔉, film🎬 and other creative media. The diversity of art forms, rich creative materials and minimalist creative concepts present its unique artistic language
✅The order of the entire exhibition visit🔁 is also the order of Benavinet's 60-year artistic journey. In these independent sections, you can see the changes in his artistic creation concepts.
✅The exhibition halls and spaces of the Phoenix Center provide more empowerment for the artistic expression of the exhibits. As a grand exhibition to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, the main work of this exhibition, an 18-meter-high large public sculpture, will be unveiled in November. It is located outdoors on the first floor of Phoenix Center and is currently in the adjustment stage.
⭕️A few works I like
🔸Aggregation Series: Large-scale sculptures, with giant intersecting arcs representing the intersection of culture and thought, 👍Minimal lines present both fusion and coexistence
🔸Tar Series: The entire exhibition hall is dominated by black and white. Tar is used as a painting material because it is difficult to dry, remains in motion and softens again according to changes in ambient temperature. The unique tar monochrome painting extends the artist's painting style based on power and center of gravity.
🔸In addition, the creative inspiration drawn from mathematics and stock fluctuation charts📈 is also refreshing. From this period, we also feel the beginning of artists' use of simple lines as artistic expression.
