Exploring China's Ancient Water Towns

📌 Gubei Water Town, an Ancient Chinese Village

Traveling here is quite convenient—just a 140km drive north from Beijing, China 🇨🇳.

In January, the morning temperature is around -9°C, warming up slightly to -2°C later in the day (still very cold ❄). I wanted to try a boat ride to enjoy the scenery, but the river was frozen solid 😅 (If you want to go boating, it's better to visit during other seasons).

This is a beautiful destination not far from the capital, and it's not crowded either. You can take photos freely without worrying about other people in the background. Everywhere you look feels like a scene straight out of a Chinese movie. Plus, this town is located near the Simatai section of the Great Wall, making it easy to combine both into one trip—definitely worth it!

If you have time, consider staying overnight to fully soak in the atmosphere. The nighttime view of the Great Wall illuminated by lights, along with the decorative lights from the village shops, is a highlight you shouldn't miss.
