Summer Palace

Summer Palace, also known as "Yiheyuan" by the Chinese, is a palace that Empress Dowager Cixi was particularly fond of. It has also been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The lake in front of the palace, Kunming Lake, is man-made. The soil was excavated to create a mountain, inspired by West Lake in Hangzhou, resulting in stunning scenery. During winter, the lake freezes and turns into a skating rink.

Getting there: Take Line 4 of the subway to Beigongmen Station, exit at Exit D, and walk about 200 meters to reach the palace's north gate.

Entrance fee: 20 yuan.
