It’s not just an ordinary park, but the largest botanical research and exhibition garden in northern China, located at the foot of Xiangshan Mountain, spanning Haidian and Shijingshan districts. Covering nearly 2,000 acres, it integrates natural ecology, science education, cultural history, and photographic aesthetics. It is Beijing residents’ hidden “urban green lung” and “four-season garden.”
📍 Key Highlights: See the world’s plants in one garden
✅ North-South Garden Layout:
- South Garden (Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences): Focused on research, featuring greenhouses with exotic flowers and rare plants
- North Garden (former Beijing Botanical Garden): Public viewing area, hosting three major events: Peach Blossom Festival, Chrysanthemum Exhibition, and Red Leaf Season
✅ Popular Seasonal Attractions:
- March to April: Peach blossoms, plum blossoms, magnolias in full bloom; the largest Peach Blossom Festival venue in Beijing
- May to June: Lilacs, tulips, and crabapples competing in beauty, filling the air with fragrance
- September to October: Chrysanthemum exhibition with diverse and colorful displays
- Late October to mid-November: Ginkgo Avenue turns golden like a painting, red leaves cover the hills like fire
📷 Must-visit photo spots:
> South Gate Ginkgo Avenue (autumn), ancient ginkgo tree in front of Wofo Temple (600 years old), Metasequoia forest in Cherry Valley (misty and fairy-tale-like), small bridges and flowing water in Peach Blossom Garden
🚇 How to get there?
- Take Metro Line 10 → transfer at Bagou Station to the Western Suburban Line → get off at Botanical Garden Station to reach the South Gate
- Driving: park at P1 parking lot (¥5/hour), recommended to arrive before 8 AM on holidays
Ticket Information:
- South Garden: ¥50 (includes greenhouse), half price for students
- North Garden: ¥5 (off-season) / ¥10 (during flower exhibitions)
- It is recommended to buy a combined ticket or visit the North Garden alone (more suitable for general visitors)
🗺 Recommended route (half-day highlights tour):
9:00 Enter North Garden East Gate → 9:30 Enjoy Peach Blossom Valley / Plum Garden → 10:30 Walk the Cherry Valley boardwalk → 11:30 Pray at Wofo Temple → 12:00 Picnic lunch at Ginkgo Avenue → 13:00 Return
💡 Tips:
> Cherry Valley has a “forest mist system” that sprays mist at scheduled times daily, creating a magical atmosphere; morning visits are recommended. Families with children can rent guided carts or take the electric mini train.
🌿 This is not just a botanical garden,
but a three-dimensional natural textbook.
Listen to flowers bloom in spring, cool off in summer woods,
chase red leaves in autumn, and walk snowy paths in winter.
Come to Xiangshan National Botanical Garden,
slow down your steps and brighten your eyes.
