Gubei Water Town, located in the northwest suburbs of Beijing, is definitely the most unforgettable and dreamy leisure trip I have ever had. This historic and quaint Jiangnan water town perfectly combines the traditional culture of Beijing with the water town scenery, leaving me with unique experience memories.
The first step into the town is like traveling through time and space into the scenery of the ancient Jiangnan water town. All you can see are the neatly arranged stone roads, the mottled low white walls and black tiles, and the clear river that meanders through the town. Walking along the alleys paved with bluestone slabs, you can see quaint traditional houses, teahouses and taverns, as well as various handicraft workshops and antique calligraphy and painting shops.
The most unforgettable thing is the unique experience of taking a cruise to tour the entire water town. The boatman used the traditional pole-rowing method to roam between the large and small rivers in the town, giving us the opportunity to appreciate the scenery along the coast up close. From time to time along the way, you can encounter performers in traditional costumes, or the vivid scenes of fishermen paddling boats to catch fish, as if you were in a living historical picture scroll of an ancient water town.
In addition to the pleasing architectural landscape, we also tasted the most authentic Beijing-style specialties here. Whether it is Jianbing Guozi, handmade Masu, or authentic Yanjing Eight Bowls and other classic delicacies, each one is unforgettable. Being able to visit such an ancient town that combines water village style, architectural culture and food flavor is definitely a worthwhile and valuable experience, leaving behind unforgettable beautiful memories.
