Bergen Was a Dream! Fjords, Festivals & Unforgettable Views! 🇳🇴

I visited in mid-May and hit the jackpot with my timing. It's an amazing trip to Bergen, Norway! I knew I'd see beautiful scenery, but I didn't expect to fall so in love with the city's charm and spirit.

Here are the highlights you simply cannot miss.

🏘️ A Walk Through History: Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf
The first thing you'll want to see is the iconic Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walking through the narrow, creaky wooden alleyways between the colourful Hanseatic buildings feels like stepping back in time. It’s amazing to imagine the history that took place right on that wharf. It's even more beautiful in person than in the photos!

🌟 Highlight of the Trip: May 17th National Day! I am incredibly lucky to be in Bergen for Norway's Constitution Day on May 17th. The city completely transforms! The streets were filled with parades, marching bands, and thousands of smiling locals dressed in the most beautiful traditional outfits called bunad. The atmosphere was electric with pure joy and national pride. It felt like being welcomed into a nationwide family celebration. An unforgettable cultural experience!

🛥️ Must-Do: Fjord Tour You can't go to this part of the world and not see the fjords. The tour I took from Bergen was breathtaking. Sailing through the calm, deep waters, with majestic mountains and cascading waterfalls on either side, feels like something out of a movie. The sheer scale and beauty of the landscape are hard to describe in words. Be sure to charge your camera!

🚠 Two Mountains, Two Views: Ulriken & Fløyen
Bergen is the "City of Seven Mountains," and we visited two!

Mount Ulriken: We took the cable car up for the highest, most panoramic view of the entire region.

Mount Fløyen for Sunset: For a truly magical evening, take the Fløibanen funicular up Mount Fløyen. We went just before sunset and watched as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with colour and watching the city lights start to twinkle below. It was pure magic. 🌅

🐠 A Fun Afternoon: Bergen Aquarium
I spent a lovely few hours at the Akvariet i Bergen (the city's fantastic aquarium). It was a great way to see the incredible marine life from the North Atlantic up close. The sea lion show was a lot of fun, and seeing the penguins and colourful fish was a relaxing way to spend the afternoon. They even have a crocodile from the Philippines. A great activity, especially if you encounter Bergen's famous rain!

🦐 Foodie Heaven: The Fresh Seafood!
Let's talk about the food! Bergen is a paradise for seafood lovers. A visit to the historic Fish Market (Fisketorget) is a must. I had the delicious, creamy Bergen fish soup and feasted on the freshest salmon and shrimp you can imagine. Everything tastes like it was just pulled from the ocean. Don't leave without trying the catch of the day!

Pro-Tip: Wear layers! The weather in Bergen can change in a minute. I highly recommend visiting in May to experience the magic of the city coming alive for the
