Introduction to Sayram Lake
Sayram Lake is located within Bole City, Bortala Prefecture, Xinjiang, in the northern Tianshan mountain range. It is famously known as "the last drop of the Atlantic Ocean." The lake's circumference is about 90KM, and you can choose to drive yourself or take the scenic shuttle bus (each attraction has a parking area, no random parking allowed). The park supports drone flights, but you must register at the East Gate security checkpoint, and some areas have a flight height limit of 30 meters.
The shuttle bus generally runs clockwise following the route "East Gate - North Gate - South Gate," and it is recommended to sit on the left side of the bus.
Food recommendation: The "Cold Water Fish Queen" is a high-quality fresh fish living in Sayram Lake. It lives at depths of 20 to 30 meters, with delicious meat and rich nutrition.
Accommodation options: Sayram Lake offers various types of accommodations including RV campsites, apartment hotels, and starry sky rooms. You can watch the stars at night and wait for the sunrise in the morning. You can choose your lodging within the park according to your preferences.
Flower viewing season: June to mid-July; Blue ice viewing season: December to February of the following year (most blue ice photos are aerial shots, and the lake surface is prone to accidents in winter).
Photo tips
1. Watch the sunset at the small pebble beach, where stones of different sizes in the water make great photo subjects.
2. At Xihai Grassland, use the grassland, lake, and snow-capped mountains as the background.
3. On the way to Kele Yongzhu, there is a wooden boardwalk that is also great for photos (drones can be used inside the park).
4. At the waterside beach, you can get close to swans and stroll along the lake to capture reflections.
5. Photos taken on the extended road section are also stunning, with the road, snow mountains, and lake as the backdrop.
6. It is recommended to wear a white dress for better photo effects.
Travel tips
1. Be sure to check the weather before departure to avoid cloudy or rainy days affecting the scenery.
2. The weather is cool all year round, so even in summer, prepare a windbreaker or jacket.
3. Make sure to take sun protection measures while touring because the UV rays in Xinjiang are very strong.
4. The shuttle bus stops for a limited time at each station; self-driving is recommended for more convenient sightseeing.
5. Do not park randomly inside the park; each attraction has designated parking lots. Be careful of passing vehicles when crossing roads or taking photos on the road.
6. Not far from Songshutou is the spot to capture the S-shaped road, but the best time is early morning. Staying overnight in the park for this view is worthwhile, and the evening is also beautiful.
7. The best views of Sayram Lake are mostly concentrated on the road section from Songshutou stop to Xihai Grassland, where one side is the lake and the other side is a densely forested hillside, very beautiful.
