🏛️ The Kaohsiung Dagou British Consulate Cultural Park is Taiwan's oldest surviving Western-style modern building, constructed in 1879. It was also the first consulate established by the British government in Taiwan. The park includes the hilltop residence, the hillside office, and the ancient trail connecting the two, making it the only consulate park in Taiwan that fully preserves both the residence and office. In 2019, it was designated as a national historic site.
The residence features Baroque-style architecture, with red brick construction and bamboo-shaped downspouts that reflect the characteristics of late Qing dynasty Western-style buildings. Situated on elevated ground, it offers a perfect vantage point for enjoying views of Kaohsiung Harbor and the "Xizi Sunset." The park combines historical exhibits, English afternoon tea, and hiking along the ancient trail, making it an important cultural site that blends heritage and tourism.
