Pomir Lesser-Known Attraction

Many people who drive along Route 318 stop in Pomir for a night or rest for a day, but they often miss a very nice lesser-known attraction, Galong Monastery.

Distance: About 25 kilometers from Pomir. Navigate to Galong Monastery. There is a sign 5 kilometers out of Pomir County; head towards Metok, see picture 2.

Road conditions: After passing the sign, it’s a winding mountain road through some forests and avalanche-prone sections, see picture 9.
After climbing the slope, you reach Galong Monastery, also called Galong La Tunnel by some. See picture 1. Park your car where I parked to check in, then turn around and drive to the parking lot at the foot of the monastery mountain, see picture 3. Standing in the parking lot, you are surrounded by mountains on all sides, with glaciers and snow-capped mountains on three sides. Definitely worth a visit.
