Brugge: A Fairytale City of Canals

#westerneurope

Brugge, often called the “Venice of the North,” is one of Europe’s most enchanting medieval towns. Its historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is full of cobblestone streets, winding canals, and colorful gabled houses. I loved strolling through the Markt Square, listening to the chimes of the Belfry, and watching the city glow in the evening light.

A canal boat tour is the best way to see Brugge’s charm from the water, passing under stone bridges and alongside historic buildings. The city is also heaven for food lovers — from rich Belgian chocolate and crispy waffles to local beers brewed in centuries-old breweries.

Tips: Brugge is very walkable, so comfortable shoes are all you need. Visit early in the morning or later in the evening for a quieter, more romantic atmosphere. Don’t miss climbing the Belfry of Brugge for panoramic views or trying local dishes like mussels with fries.

📍 Location: West Flanders, Belgium
🕒 Best Time to Visit: April–June or September–October for mild weather and fewer crowds
