Kanas invites you to a feast of autumn colors!
🍁 Autumn in Kanas is like God's spilled palette! Here, I found the ultimate northern Xinjiang autumn scenery. Please keep this perfect guide that includes morning mist, hiking, climbing, and cultural experiences!✨
📸 Must-visit Attractions
🌅 Immortal Bay Morning Mist
📍Location: Inside Kanas Scenic Area (first stop of the shuttle bus)
⏰Best viewing time: 8:00-9:30
Be sure to get up early to catch the first shuttle bus! You must arrive at Immortal Bay before 8:30 AM to witness the most magical morning mist phenomenon🌫️At dawn, the mist rises from the lake, wrapping around the snow-covered fir trees🌲When the soft morning light penetrates the thin fog, the entire bay looks like a fairyland, with a blue filter covering the valley, breathtakingly beautiful😍
❗TIPS: Before 7:30 AM, it’s just a white blur and nothing can be photographed; 8:00-9:00 AM is the best time
🧥 Outfit advice: Down jacket + hat are essential! The early morning temperature can drop to minus four or five degrees, really cold🥶
🌄 Moon Bay → Wolong Bay Hiking
📍Start point: Moon Bay Viewing Platform
🚶Total distance: 2.7 km (boardwalk + natural trail)
The hiking route from Moon Bay to Wolong Bay is the essence of Kanas✨Walking along the boardwalk, the Kanas River winds through the valley like an emerald ribbon💎The iconic S-shaped curve of Moon Bay is spectacular when viewed from the platform📸Along the way, you’ll see the most beautiful autumn reflections—blue sky, white clouds, and colorful forests mirrored in the clear water, stunning beyond words! Hiking to Wolong Bay, you can see the river bend’s sandbar shaped like a coiled giant dragon🐉The dragon shape is incredibly lifelike!
🏞 Fish Watching Platform Climb
📍Location: East shore of Kanas Lake
⏰Opening hours: 8:00-18:00
Climbing 1,068 steps is indeed tiring😅 but standing at the 2,030-meter-high Fish Watching Platform, you can take in three-quarters of Kanas Lake at a glance👀The vertical drop of over 600 meters offers an ultimate perspective, with snow-capped mountains🏔️, blue lakes, and golden forests all in one frame. Every shot is desktop wallpaper-worthy! Looking north, you can also see the highest peak of the Altai Mountains—Friendship Peak, an unbeatable view forever!
👨👩👧👦 Visit to the Tuva People’s Home
📍Location: Kanas Old Village
💰Cost: About 80-100 RMB per person
Step into a Tuva wooden house🏠 The culture of this northernmost ancient nomadic ethnic group is so unique! Must-experience:
✔️ Khoomei throat singing: one person can produce two vocal parts simultaneously, amazing!
✔️ Drink two bowls of milk tea: custom requires at least two bowls to show respect
✔️ Licorice lamb: tender and fresh without any gamey taste, absolutely delicious!
You can also learn about the Tuva people's traditions of respecting elders and caring for children, a full cultural experience~
🚌 Practical Tips
Transportation: Take the shuttle bus from the Jiadengyu ticket station (last bus around 20:00), which passes through the three bays (Immortal Bay, Moon Bay, Wolong Bay) in order
Accommodation Recommendations:
🏠 Jiadengyu: Convenient for transfers but time-consuming to enter and exit
🏠 Old Village: Most convenient for food, lodging, and transportation
🏠 New Village: Best value choice
Gear Checklist:
🧥 Down jacket/windbreaker (temperature difference of 15°C+ between morning and evening)
🥾 Non-slip waterproof hiking shoes (essential if it snows)
