If you want to arrange a day trip to Gijang, I would say the must-visit attraction is "Haedong Yonggung Temple"!
The temple building is located on the cliff of Gijang coastline. The solemn atmosphere, the sound of waves hitting the rocks, and the bustling crowds of people will surely shock anyone who comes here.
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple was built in 1376 and was originally named Pumunsa Temple. It is one of the three major Guanyin holy sites in South Korea. Because of the combination of sea, dragon and Guanyin Buddha, this place has a deeper religious meaning than other places. Legend has it that if you pray sincerely at Haedong Yonggung Temple, the Bodhisattva will appear in your dream and grant you a wish.
Because it is a bit far from the city, you can take a bus or taxi from the city. The bus is the most cost-effective 🚌! However, there is a 10-minute uphill walk from the bus station to the temple. Some people take the bus to the foot of the mountain and then take a taxi up. If you are traveling independently and have many other things to do, this is the recommended way.
If you want to combine it with nearby attractions, at the foot of the mountain are famous amusement attractions such as Busan Lotte Land 🎠, Lotte Outlet, Skyline Luge, etc. A little further away is the Jijang Market, which is famous for its seafood, where you can enjoy abalone porridge and king crab! 🦀
Next time you come to Busan, why not take a trip to Gijang!
