Baek Jong-won's famous restaurants and famous cafes are great, but if you want to experience the true flavors of Busan, you need to head to the traditional markets. As soon as I walked down the market alley, the aromas of fried food, fish cake soup, and the sizzling sounds of pancakes greeted me, stopping me in my tracks.
I sat down at the snack corner and ordered tteokbokki, gimbap, and fried squid. My plate was filled with piping hot dishes, prepared right in front of me. The Busan-style tteokbokki, with its rich sweet and spicy sauce, made my trip worthwhile the first bite. The chewy wheat cakes, perfectly seasoned with the sauce, and the refreshing fish cakes added to the perfect balance.
After satiating my appetite with snacks, I moved to a small restaurant and ordered a bowl of cod soup. The simmering white broth, fragrant cod meat, spicy green onions, and Cheongyang peppers all harmonized to create a truly relaxing experience. It felt like all the fatigue from my trip had melted away with a single spoonful of soup.
It was a day that once again reminded me that Busan's ocean is best enjoyed with the eyes, and its flavors are best savored at the market.
