This time, my friends and I went to a stylish and surprising Japanese izakaya called Tori Eki, located in Central. They specialize in various skewers and their signature chicken soup udon. The restaurant’s decor is very Japanese, making you feel like you’ve instantly been transported to Japan.
-
We started with a salad to whet our appetite. The vegetables were very fresh, paired with smoked salmon and avocado, which was very appetizing. There was also Wasabi Nagaimo, a refreshing dish of nagaimo paired with wasabi, which was truly unique.
-
For skewers, we ordered pork neck, chicken cartilage, chicken wings, quail eggs, pork ribs, beef diaphragm, and white eel tofu. All were grilled to order, perfectly cooked with a rich sauce aroma. I especially liked the pork ribs and white eel tofu; the pork ribs were grilled to a fragrant, non-greasy finish with a strong meaty flavor, while the white eel tofu was smooth, tender, and sweet.
-
Next, of course, was the restaurant’s signature chicken soup udon. The golden chicken broth was simmered for 10 hours, resulting in a rich and flavorful soup base. The udon was also very chewy and had great texture. Taking a bite of udon followed by a sip of soup was truly satisfying.
-
We also ordered the soy sauce grilled rice ball. The outside was slightly charred and fragrant, making my mouth water just by looking at it. The texture was excellent, with distinct grains of rice.
-
Finally, we finished with caramel daifuku. The inside was soft and chewy, sweet but not cloying, leaving us very satisfied.
