Jakarta Cathedral

At the end of winter break when I was returning home, I couldn’t get a suitable flight ticket, so I reluctantly stopped by Jakarta for a bit.
Most of the habitual impressions of this city come from the internet: a mega city with 30 million people, terrible traffic, dirty and chaotic, poverty and wealth separated by a single wall, motorcycle gangs snatching phones, and even foul-smelling used underwear being sold... It just feels like, hmm, a place to practice before going to India.
At the same time, Jakarta is the fastest sinking city on Earth and is expected to become the contemporary "Atlantis" by 2050. Just for that reputation, it’s worth a visit. To sum up: more interesting than expected, but not by much.

Photo ①: Kuningan City
Parking lot on the 6th floor of Gate 1, currently the best spot for building photography in Jakarta, perfectly showcasing the city’s characteristics.
Photo ②: Jakarta History Museum
Dutch colonial architecture from 1707. Most exhibits are from the 17th to 19th centuries. The museum isn’t large, but the content is quite hardcore. Many students come to visit, very enthusiastic, their smiles are healing.
Photo ③: Kuningan City
Rotary parking garage.
Photo ④: Jakarta Cathedral
A Gothic cathedral from 1891, the third largest Catholic church in the world.
Photo ⑤: Istiqlal Mosque
I went on a Friday during prayer time, so I didn’t go inside. The window patterns are all made of stainless steel, which is unique.
Photo ⑥: Cafe Batavia
A century-old coffee shop opposite the history museum. The food is average, but you must visit the restroom—you know why.
Photo ⑦: Gaya Spa Wellness Wolter Monginsidi
The most recommended massage place by local bloggers, couples can get massages together. About 900 RMB for two people, the technique is good—I fell asleep during the massage. Afterward, they even provide meals on the second floor.
Photo ⑧: Bundaran HI
The best spot at the bus stop. Jakarta has no subway, mainly relying on buses.
Photo ⑨: Pasar Barang Antik
Surabaya antique street, with many quirky items.
Photo ⑩: Giyanti Coffee Roastery
A coffee shop opposite the antique street, ranked 9th in Asia’s Top 50 coffee list, the only one in Jakarta. I thought the coffee was okay, but the food tasted better.
Photo ⑪: HW Phoenix Bar PIK
Don’t bother with other seaside spots in Jakarta—they feel like the 1980s. PIK 2 near the airport is better, known as “Little Bali,” more trendy. This Phoenix bar serves food and drinks, with music. Highly recommend the cocktails🍸.
Photo ⑫: Twelve Chinese Dining Restaurant
A 12 zodiac-themed restaurant with very extravagant decor. The Chinese food tastes good, a relief for my Chinese palate after coming back from Australia.
