Çeşme, Turkey is all about crystal-clear beaches, Aegean breezes, and relaxed charm. Here’s a lively guide to help you plan:
🌍 Why Visit Çeşme?
Think sun-soaked seaside, turquoise waters, thermal springs, and Turkish-Mediterranean food. Çeşme is less hectic than Bodrum, more authentic than some big resorts, and has that relaxed bohemian vibe thanks to nearby Alaçatı.
🏖 What to Do in Çeşme
1. Hit the Beaches
Ilıca Beach – famous for shallow, warm, turquoise waters and fine white sand. Great for families.
Altınkum Beach – lively, with music, bars, and crystal-clear water.
Pırlanta Beach – a windy beach perfect for kiteboarding & windsurfing.
2. Explore Alaçatı
The prettiest Aegean village: cobblestone streets, bougainvillea-draped stone houses, boutique shops, wine bars, and art cafés.
Famous for windmills and a strong wind-surfing scene.
3. Wander Çeşme Castle & Marina
Built in the 16th century, the castle gives great views and a little history.
Marina area = seafood restaurants + stylish bars with sunset views.
4. Thermal Springs
Çeşme means “fountain” in Turkish, and the town is known for its thermal waters.
Spa hotels and public baths in Ilıca let you soak and relax.
5. Boat Trips
Daily excursions to hidden bays, nearby islands, and the Greek island Chios (just 30 minutes by ferry!).
🍽 What to Eat
Boyoz – a flaky pastry from Izmir, perfect for breakfast.
Midye Dolma – mussels stuffed with spiced rice (street food favorite).
Meze & fresh fish at a seaside taverna.
Dondurma (Turkish ice cream), especially mastic-flavored, which comes from nearby Chios.
🏨 Where to Stay
Boutique stone hotels in Alaçatı – charming, romantic vibe.
Beach resorts in Ilıca & Çeşme – for direct seaside access.
Thermal spa hotels if you want the healing waters experience.
🚗 Getting There
Fly into Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) (about 90 km).
From Izmir, you can rent a car (best option), take a shuttle, or hop on a bus (approx. 1.5 hrs).
🎒 Travel Tips
Summer (June–September) is lively and hot, but May and September are less crowded and still sunny.
Windsurfing season peaks in July & August.
Nights can get breezy – pack a light sweater even in summer.
✨ Fun Fact: Alaçatı is nicknamed the “St. Tropez of Turkey” for its stylish cafés and nightlife — but it still keeps its authentic Aegean village charm.
