6-day itinerary from Chongqing to Ordos on 51
DAY Chongqing Yulin
🏨 Staying at the Starway Hotel (not recommended)
DAY Yulin - Ordos
🚗 Take a taxi to Ordos Airport to pick up your car.
🏨Check in at Jinmo Hotel (recommended).
🏜️Explore the wild desert next to the hotel for fun.
DAY: Night Singing Sand
🏜️Explore the Night Singing Sand dugout, catch black beetles in the desert, eat watermelon, go sandboarding, and ride a camel.
🌟Stargazing in the wild desert next to the hotel at night.
🏨Jinmo Hotel
DAY: Jinmo Hotel - Niubaba Happy Grassland/Huitengxile Grassland - Ulan Daha Volcano Park
❄️We planned to do some activities on the grasslands. It was snowing, and the kids had a blast playing in the snow.
🏨Yimeng Yimu Volcano B&B (recommended, with a bonfire party in the evening).
DAY: Volcano Park
🌋After 51, you can't drive yourself, so you have to take the scenic bus. We first went to Volcano 8 to collect agates for two hours (a favorite for the kids), then went to Volcano 6 to collect volcanic rocks and wear spacesuits. The wind was so strong that day that we didn't have time to see the other volcanoes. 🏨Yimeng Yimu Volcano B&B
DAY: Volcano Park - Niubaba Grassland - Inner Mongolia Natural History Museum - Ordos
🌿I checked ahead of time and it wasn't snowing on the grassland, but when I got there it was so windy I couldn't play.
🏯On the way back to Ordos, we stopped by the museum and went back there (my kids are dinosaur fans).
🏨Puyin Hotel (Dongsheng District)
DAY: Ordos, Chongqing
🥣Breakfast at Toya Mongolian Morning Tea. Lots of dairy products, and the lamb was especially delicious.
📣TIPS
✅Night Singing Sand Attraction: The only activities for those under 1.3 meters are the camel ride and the shuttle bus. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We inquired several times. Be patient.
✅The temperature swings in Inner Mongolia are quite dramatic. I asked the hotel in advance, but they didn't specify what to wear. I packed everything from short-sleeved shirts to lightweight down jackets. The long johns and down jacket I brought for stargazing were useful on a snowy day. A windproof jacket is also essential. The wind was at least force 6 on the day we visited the volcano, and it gave me a headache.
✅Since we had kids with us, we slept until they woke naturally and then leisurely explored the area. The attractions weren't as crowded. We also didn't get to visit other attractions along Yemingsha Road.
✅I highly recommend Toya's morning tea; it's more cost-effective with a large group. We ordered over 200 yuan for two adults and one child.
Both the kids and the adults said they'd like to come back again.
