Shunan Bamboo Sea | Natural Oxygen Bar for Kids! Treasure Hunting and Making Bamboo Tube Rice in the Vast Bamboo Forest

Wow! As soon as we got off the car, we were surrounded by abundant negative oxygen ions—truly a natural oxygen bar! We spent three days and two nights playing with the kids in Shunan Bamboo Sea and have summarized this super detailed family travel guide. It's an excellent choice for summer outings with kids!

🚗 Transportation and Accommodation

It takes about 3 hours to drive from Chengdu, and the road conditions are very good. We strongly recommend staying in a homestay inside the scenic area! We stayed at [Zhu An Yin Suo], which is quiet and surrounded by bamboo forests right outside the window. The kids loved it. Staying inside saves the hassle of entering and exiting the scenic area multiple times, and after the tourists leave in the early morning and evening, the entire bamboo forest feels as peaceful as your own backyard.

🎋 Must-Experience Family Activities

✨ Emerald Corridor Hiking: This is the core attraction, but be sure to go before 9 AM! Fewer people, beautiful lighting, and dancing bamboo shadows make for amazing photos. We prepared a "Nature Observation Task Card" for the kids to find different types of bamboo, listen to the rustling bamboo leaves, and feel the texture of the bamboo, making the hike much more fun.

✨ Cable Car Ride Over the Bamboo Sea: The cable car is very long with a breathtaking view! Overlooking the entire bamboo sea, the kids kept saying "Wow!" nonstop. We recommend buying a round-trip ticket to save energy.

✨ Rafting on the Sea in the Sea: Rowing the bamboo raft yourself is so much fun! The water is shallow and very safe. The kids pretended to be boatmen holding small paddles and didn’t want to get off. This is also a filming location for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

✨ DIY Bamboo Tube Rice: The homestay prepared glutinous rice and ingredients for us in advance. The kids put the rice into bamboo tubes themselves and watched it cook, filling the room with fragrance. The rice they made themselves tasted especially good, and the kids finished a whole big tube!

🍜 Food Recommendations

The full bamboo feast is a specialty! Bamboo fungus egg, bamboo bird’s nest, stir-fried cured meat with bamboo shoots... The kids especially liked the tender bamboo shoots, which went perfectly with rice. The restaurants in the scenic area are a bit pricey but taste good.

⚠️ Warm Tips

There is a big temperature difference in the mountains, so remember to bring a light jacket for the kids.

Make sure to do enough mosquito protection as there are quite a few mosquitoes in the bamboo forest.

Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes for hiking.

Bring several sets of clothes for changing, as kids tend to get wet when playing with water.

Shunan Bamboo Sea is truly a place where both adults and children can relax. The endless green is also good for eyesight, and the kids kept talking about that big bamboo forest after returning. We will definitely come back next time!
