This time I especially want to share my personal experience of "Never Sleep City" in Changsha, Hunan. To be honest, this route is really super suitable for you who love liveliness, love food, love photography! The reality is that Changsha is not only as simple as Zhangjiajie, it turns out that the city after dark is the exciting start, eat, buy, play more options than you can believe, and the traffic is really unexpectedly smooth!
A highlight of this trip is to use the convenient transportation from Changsha to experience a new feeling in Changsha. This “city that never sleeps” tour is definitely a paradise for night owls, whether it’s a market, bar, night market or local specialty snacks, you can “play from night to dawn”!
🌕 Overview of Evernight City Attractions
1. May Day Square Night Market
As one of the most popular night markets in Changsha, May Day Square brings together many authentic specialty snacks and small shops. I sincerely recommend trying the local super popular "stinky tofu" and "sugar oil dumplings". There is a subway station (May Day Square Station on Line 2) near the night market, which is super convenient.
2. Taiping Street & Wong Hing Road Pedestrian Street
After nightfall, many celebrity shops start to light up. Taiping Street old-fashioned and coffee shops, as well as "Changsha Wenheyou" - Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street has many trendy brands, creative handmade shops, and local specialties (recommended Hunan pork, chili sauce) can be purchased.
Address: Taiping Street is near May Day Square, within walking distance.
3. Liberation West Road Bar a street
Want to experience the nightlife atmosphere of Changsha? Liberation West Road is your first choice! This place has a collection of popular livehouses and specialty bars, perfect for night owls' entertainment gatherings. Tip: The crowds are highest after 20:00, expect to queue, many popular bars have low consumption.
4. Orange Island Head
The night view is super beautiful, especially on summer evenings with musical fountains and light shows. Take a slow walk along the Xiangjiang River to Tangerine Island, where the large Mao Zedong youth statue is not to be missed. Accessible by Metro Line 2 Orange Island Station, opening hours: all day year-round (some light shows start around 20:00 every night).
🚝Transportation route suggestions
There are several direct flights from Lanzhou to Changsha. After getting off the plane, you can take Metro Line 2 directly to May Day Square. After that, you can easily change to the subway or walk to major night markets, Orange Island, etc.
🍜 Must-eat recommendation
- Black fried stinky tofu (available everywhere in May Day Square and Tai Ping Street)
- Wenheyou Lobster Restaurant (remember to go early, dinner is extremely popular)
- Sugar and oil dumplings, flavored shrimp, chopped pepper fish head (popular restaurants tend to have to queue, the patience is definitely worth it!)
📝 Practical tips
- Changsha has a later nightlife rhythm, most shops are busiest after 8pm.
- The bar area and night market are crowded, remember to take good care of your personal belongings, while paying attention to sun protection and plenty of moisture.
- When taking pictures, it is recommended to check the lighting show time in advance to avoid missing the best time to check in.
This cross-city "city that never sleeps" experience really made me get to know Changsha again. If you, like me, only use Changsha as a transfer station, you might as well give yourself a chance to discover this vibrant city nightlife!
