🏛 History and Significance

The origins of Wat Lok Moli date back to the Mengrai Dynasty, with its first documented mention in 1367 (B.E. 1910). King Kuena, a monarch of the Mengrai lineage, invited monks from Myanmar to reside at this temple to propagate Buddhism. Later, in 1527 (B.E. 2070), King Mueang Ket commissioned the construction of the chedi, and in 1545 (B.E. 2088), the viharn (main hall) was built.

The chedi houses the ashes of Mengrai royalty, including King Mueang Ket and Queen Wisutthewi, enhancing the temple's sanctity as a royal temple.

Visiting Wat Lok Moli feels like stepping back in time to the Lanna era.
