Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan: A Historic Temple You Must Visit

Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan, Chiang Mai ⛩️✨
One of the oldest and most powerful temples in Chiang Mai, this is a place worth visiting at least once in your lifetime.

Located in the heart of Chiang Mai's old city, Wat Chedi Luang is a historic temple built during the reign of King Saen Muang Ma in the 19th Buddhist century. Its highlight is the massive Chedi (pagoda), which originally stood 80 meters tall but now measures around 50 meters due to an earthquake in 1545.

Although the Chedi is no longer in its original form, it exudes a unique charm and reflects the glorious past of the Lanna Kingdom. This temple once housed the Emerald Buddha (now located at Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok), making it a site of great spiritual and cultural significance.

Highlights:
• The colossal ancient Chedi, visible from afar.
• The beautiful and serene wooden Lai Kham Viharn, perfect for meditation.
• The Monk Chat area – a space where international visitors can engage in conversations with monks.
• A large Bodhi tree and a pavilion with inscriptions of teachings to explore leisurely.

Tips:
• Visit in the morning or evening for cooler weather.
• Dress modestly, as the temple is still actively used for religious ceremonies.
