Wat Phalat (also known as Wat Sakadakami) is a public temple under the Mahanikaya sect.
"Phalat" comes from the site's steep, waterfall-like shape (originally called "Phalerd" because people and elephants slipped and fell there).
This temple is hundreds of years old, with evidence of this occurring in Lanna chronicles. It is connected to the story of the procession to bring the Buddha's relics to Doi Suthep. The elephant carrying the relics stopped at this spot along the route, leading to a temple built as a memorial.
🏯 Highlights
Important structures, such as the ancient chedi, are Burmese in style (possibly linked to Burmese craftsmen). For those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and a tranquil retreat in the forest, Wat Phalat is a great choice, nestled amidst nature, streams, and majestic trees.
📸 The temple grounds offer a panoramic view of Chiang Mai, making it not only a place to make merit, but also a great place to take beautiful photos and relax.
📍 Location
Located in Suthep Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province, the temple is on the way up to Doi Suthep from the Kruba Srivichai Monument. At the base of the mountain, approximately 5 kilometers up, you'll find the temple entrance on the left. Open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Cars are allowed, but the road is steep and uphill. Drive with caution, especially during rainy or slippery conditions.
What to bring: Walking shoes. The ground around the temple can be slippery due to running water. The stream and some of the pagoda walls may be damp.
